Student Life
The majority of our 12,000 students are from
the surrounding community and are enrolled on a part-time basis. About 50% of
our students are between 17 and 24 years of age. Ethnically, enrollments are
similar to those in the surrounding community: about 88% are Euro-Americans, 8%
are African Americans, 2% are Hispanic Americans and 2% are international
students or have other non-citizen status. Over 130 international students are
enrolled at KVCC, representing 46 Different countries from around the globe.
Community colleges are able to offer students
high quality teaching at a good price. Plan on apartment rental though, because
KVCC does not have student housing.

KVCC has two campuses, one in downtown
Kalamazoo and another eight miles west of the city center. Two technical
training centers are part of the facilities. KVCC also governs the Kalamazoo
Valley Museum, a public museum of history, science and technology.
Nearly half of the students who enroll at
KVCC each year intend to transfer. Students from KVCC transfer to Michigan
colleges and Universities, as well as to many institutions in other states. The
majority (over eighty percent) transfer to Western
Michigan University, also located in Kalamazoo. College transfer programs at
KVCC include: business administration, criminal justice, pre-engineering,
education, pre-science, liberal arts and pre-social work. The following colleges
and universities are among the hundreds of transfer institutions available to
students at Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
It is important that you consult with a
KVCC counselor, prior to
or after enrollment at KVCC, for
transfer
requirements of specific colleges and universities and plan your program.
Activities vary from semester to semester
depending upon the wishes and desires of the student body. The college
encourages student organization of worthwhile activities and assists in the
development of meaningful programs. See our student
clubs and organizations for more information.
