Kalamazoo Valley Women's Basketball |
November 29, 2008 KVCC (76) vs.
Columbus State (51) in Kalamazoo
Coach's comments:
One of the best measures of defensive
proficiency is shooting percentage. If that is a true statement, then
Saturday night's performance by the Lady Cougars of KVCC tells a good
story. Columbus State, which came into the game shooting over 40% from
three and 44% total field goal percentage was held to 25% from three in the 2nd
half - 30% for the game and 32.8% total FG percentage and dominated on the
boards and the final outcome was really not in doubt when the home standing
Cougars took a 45-24 halftime lead. Second chance points (22-2), points in
the paint (26-4), and bench points (30-6) told the story of the game.
Jeannie Closson, the 6'2" Valley
forward was spectacular in a little over 20 minutes of work with 17 points and
14 rebounds. She was joined in double figures by a very quiet 15 points
from Alicia Jesnek, 12 points from her sister, Dee Dee, and another strong
offensive showing from Alexis Szekely with 10. Dee Dee added 8 rebounds
off the bench and Caitlin Krull contributed 8 points and 6 rebounds.
"I'm really pleased at this point
with how the gals have bought in to our defensive scheme." Praised Coach Welch.
"Columbus State put up good offensive numbers last night and I knew they could
really shoot it. I felt good about our effort for most of the game tonight
at the defensive end."
