"Cougar" as we move thru the year

Coach Maureen Brown to return to the Lady Cougar staff in 2008

      After a year coaching in the high school ranks at Martin High School, Maureen Brown will return to the Cougar coaching staff in the Fall of the 2008-2009 school year.
      "I really enjoyed the opportunity to coach at the varsity level." Said Coach Brown. "And it was good for me to get out on my own, but it became more and more apparent to me that coaching at the college level was really what I wanted to do. I'm appreciative of Mr. Merrill and the rest of the Martin administration for giving me a chance to establish my own program and we feel that the gals grew as people and as players in the Martin program. It was also a great growing experience for me as a coach. There were just too many other factors that had to be considered with our buying a house back in Kalamazoo and when Coach Welch made the offer to rejoin his staff I felt like I needed to jump at the opportunity. We felt like we established a good base for the future for the Clippers and I will always cherish the memories with those girls."

       Coach Brown was a member of the ultra successful 2003-04 Cougar team that won twenty nine in a row, won Conference and Regional championships and finished 32-4. That team made a run to the National semi-final game losing to the eventual National Champion. She was the lone sophomore on the 2004-05 team and won 49 games in her two years at KVCC.

       We're very pleased that Coach "Mo" is re-joining the staff here at Valley. She has a wonderful feel for what we try to get accomplished here and is very familiar with the tradition that has been established and how we go about our business. We welcome her back with open arms!
       She brings excellent people skills and a terrific love of the game, not to mention a certain "excitability" that adds to the nice blend of personalities on our staff. We look forward to an exciting year and the development of some very good young players under her direction.
