The Graphics Design Certificate is a vocational program which develops or improves skills in computer graphics and electronic design. It is appropriate for new-to-college students or persons interested in upgrading skills for current employment or retraining for a new position. All credits in this program apply directly towards the Graphic Design AAS degree.

ART 101 Design and Appreciation 3-2-3 (Lecture/1 Standard Lab/2 Open Lab) This course introduces principles of two-dimensional design using basic media through hands-on directed studio problems and art appreciation studies. It involves design concepts which can later be applied to any medium. This course is the foundation for any courses in the visual arts (fine arts and Center for New Media).

ART 103 Drawing and Composition I 3-2-3 (Lecture/1 Standard Lab/2 Open Lab)
This course involves a study of drawing by exploring basic drawing techniques and composition by considering line, mass, structure, perspective, shade, and form. Students will work from still life, basic geometric form and line, life drawing, and imagination. Students will explore graphite, ink, and charcoal or conte, as well as be exposed to various other optional media.

GRD 101 Graphic Careers Seminar 3-2-3 (Lecture/1 Standard Lab/2 Open Lab) The course introduces ethics in advertising, industry professionalism, careers related to the graphic design industry, as well as, a variety of related topics in preparing students to enter the graphic design field. Field trips, lectures, class discussions, and written and oral presentations can be expected.

GRD 102 Digital Design 3-1-6 (Lecture/3 Standard Lab/3 Open Lab) This course provides an overview of the various processes involved in gathering and arranging written and visual messages and graphic elements to produce the best possible documents for communication. This course also surveys the reproduction process for publications. Students will work with Adobe InDesign and be introduced to Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and scanning. GRD 106 Digital Prepress 3-1-6 (Lecture/3 Standard Lab/3 Open Lab)
This course teaches students, through a class structure that is based on actual pre-press department and lectures, how to work with customer supplied files and files that they create themselves and how it correlates within the pre-press environment and how to process them for printing.
