This program offers competencies beyond the associate degree, providing students opportunity to upgrade current skills, become up-to-date with industry standards, or become highly specialized in a particular discipline. Awarding a post-associate certificate requires that students earn a minimum of an Associate Degree, prior work-related experience, or instructor approval. It is recommended that students take at least three full terms to complete all the classes in this program.

ART 204 Colored Pencil Media 3-2-3 (Lecture/1.5 Standard Lab/1.5 Open Lab) In this course, students will examine using wax-based colored pencils in the creation of illustrations and other artwork. An emphasis will be on the medium itself. Integrating colored pencils with other media such as watercolor, marker, etc., will be explored. Prerequisites: ART 103 or instructor's permission. Comments: Additional costs for supplies range from $40 to $160.

ART 205 Advanced Painting 3-2-3 (Lecture/1 Standard Lab/2 Open Lab) This is a studio course for further study in oil or acrylic media, beyond the beginning stage. Prerequisites: ART 105.

ART 212 Life Drawing 3-2-3 (Lecture/1 Standard Lab/2 Open Lab) In this advanced drawing course, students will study the human figure using live models. Students will learn the creative interpretation of structure, gesture and space as they relate to line, form, and value in rendering the human figure. This course is required for further study in animation. Prerequisites: ART 103.

GRD 211 Electronic Artistry 3-1-6 (Lecture/3 Standard Lab/3 Open Lab) This course explores advanced techniques and processes used with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Students will participate in hands-on experiences using Macintosh computers. Prerequisites: ART 101, ART 103, GRD 101, GRD 102, GRD 107, GRD 108 or instructor permission.

GRD 212 Creative Interpretation 3-1-6 (Lecture/2 Standard Lab/4 Open Lab) This course teaches students how to weave experiences and expressions into a creative framework using both visual and written communication. Students will study the past, present and future while considering a range of genres, audiences and formats. Class meetings will involve considerable discussion of the conceptual and visual possibilities of the creative mind. This course will focus on the study of culture, literature, history, mythology, and learning to recognize the roots of ancient myths that exist in contemporary stories. Prerequisites: ART 101, ART 103, ENG 110, GRD 101, GRD 102.

GRD 240 Digital Painting 3-1-6 (Lecture/3 Standard Lab/3 Open Lab) This course teaches students how to create paintings, drawings, etc., using digital tools to simulate traditional art materials. Students will participate in hands-on experiences using Macintosh computers and Wacom tablets to create original works of art. Prerequisites: ART 101, ART 103, GRD 101, GRD 102 or instructor permission.
