Just what is a CAD DESIGNER…

What is a CAD Designer?

CAD Designers use a computer and CAD (Computer Aided Design) software as one of their major tools. They start with a basic idea for an item which is to perform a desired function (called a "concept"). Then they decide what that item will look like, establishing necessary components, sizes, etc..

What is a CAD Drafter?

CAD Drafters also use a computer and CAD (Computer Aided Design) software as one of their major tools. Their job is to record the ideas of Engineers, Designers and Architects by creating readable working drawings.

What is "CAD"?

"CAD" stands for either "Computer Aided Design" or for "Computer Aided Drafting". Sometimes it is even written "CADD" which means "Computer Aided Design and Drafting".

CAD is an important tool for either a drafter or a designer. It is a way to use a computer to create drawings which formerly had been done on a drawing board with drawing instruments. The same rules and conventions are used whether a drawing is made on a drawing board or on a computer. A correct technical drawing cannot be made by someone who knows the CAD software but doesn’t know "drafting" rules. The drawings are used to establish how a part or assembly of parts will function, how they are made, how they are assembled, etc.. Again, it must be remembered that CAD is only a tool, and one out of many tools that a designer or drafter requires.

CAD Software Used:
