Students Awarded a Federal Stafford Loan

or a Federal PLUS Loan

Student loan balance checks will not be released prior to the start of a semester.  Loan balance funds will be included with other financial aid balance funds and disbursed in a common balance check.  Refer to the appropriate semester class schedule for the date balance checks will first be available.  After the initial balance check date, balance checks will be processed weekly.

“Prior” to the initial tuition due date:

If you have been awarded a Federal Stafford Loan or Federal PLUS Loan, your classes will be held until your first loan check is received by the College.  Your classes will be held only if you have registered for a minimum of 6 credit hours by the early registration tuition due date, and if you have completed Entrance Loan Counseling* at least two days prior to the early registration tuition due date.   If your loan check does not cover your full tuition/fees, your remaining balance must be paid immediately to prevent your classes from being dropped.

“After” the early registration tuition due date:

You may contact the Financial Aid Office to request a Tuition Delay if you are unable to pay for your tuition/fees by the due date (after the early registration tuition due date, tuition is due within one business day of registration) and any of the following conditions apply:

- Federal Stafford Loan or Federal PLUS Loan was awarded after the early registration tuition due date

- You registered for classes after the early registration tuition due date

- You completed Entrance Loan Counseling* after the minimum two day processing period prior to the early registration tuition due date

Your tuition delay request will be granted if you have been awarded a Federal Stafford Loan or Federal PLUS Loan and are registered for a minimum of 6 credit hours and have completed Entrance Loan Counseling*.

If you need to purchase books and supplies prior to receiving your loan balance check, you may stop in the Financial Aid Office and request a Book Voucher to be used only at the KVCC Bookstore.

Please note:  You are responsible for any outstanding charges on your account owed to KVCC.

*Entrance Loan Counseling is only required for the Federal Stafford Loan Program.
