FIRE 102 - Firefighter I & II

FIRE 102 Course Info

How do I become a state certified firefighter?
In order to participate in a state certified training course, you must be an employee of an organized fire department, or participate as a "pre-service" college student through a recognized Regional Training Center (RTC).

Where is the closest Regional Training Center for firefighters located?
Kalamazoo Valley Community College is the RTC for all of southwest Michigan.

How often is the FIRE 102 course offered?
Once a year.  (Classes begin in January.)

How is the FIRE 102 course scheduled?
The previous academy met on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6:00 to 10:00, and every-other Saturday from 8:00 to 4:00.  The course began in January and ended in June.

How much does it cost?
Total cost for a pre-service student is approximately $2,500.

How do I become eligible to take FIRE 102?
The program has established a high standard of eligibility requirements.  Interested students must contact the Fire Science Program Manager at the beginning of the fall semester and consent to participate in the eligibility process.
