Respiratory Care Program
- Associate of Applied Science Degree
The Respiratory Care Program (Respiratory Therapy)
is an AAS degree program accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Respiratory Care
and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs. Major emphasis
is placed upon cardiopulmonary critical care technology. This program prepares graduates
for the national credentialing examinations which lead to certification and registry.
Extensive adult and neonatal critical care experience is included as a part of this
program.

DENTAL HYGIENE - Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree
KVCC's Dental Hygiene program prepares graduates to provide a wide range of dental
healthcare. The need for specialized, professional hygiene services and prevention
oriented educational services is increasing. Dental hygienists are in great demand to
provide dental health care in dental offices, civil service positions, school programs and
various public health fields. Our program is fully accredited by the American Dental
Association. Graduates are eligible to write the National Board Examination and all
regional board examinations for licensing. Upon successful completion of these exams, our
graduates are fully qualified to practice as dental hygienists.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY - Certificate Program
Emergency Medical Technology (EMT)
The EMT program at KVCC exceeds all state and national Department of Transportation
training standards. EMT-Basic and EMT-Paramedic are stages in the same program consisting
of class time and clinical practice in local hospitals and ambulance services. After
successful completion of required courses, you will be eligible to take the appropriate
Michigan Department of Public Health licensing exam.
EMT-Basic
The EMT-Basic course prepares you to serve in emergency response organizations. Emphasis
is placed on medical and trauma emergencies and on the mastery and practical application
of non-invasive skills. EMT-Basic consists of one course: EMT 110. This one semester
course includes lecture, lab, and clinical practice with nine semester hours of credit.
It is offered each semester and begins in January, May, and August. It is usually
scheduled three days or four evenings per week.
EMT-Paramedic
In the EMT-Paramedic program , students review all EMT-Basic skills and concepts. Students
master intravenous therapy, trauma management, airway management, cardiology, EKG
interpretation, and pharmacology. This year long program begins in August and runs
into the next August. The EMT-Paramedic program is three semesters in length and requires
classroom, laboratory, and clinical coursework.

MEDICAL ASSISTANT TECHNOLOGY - Certificate
Program
Medical assisting is one of the nation's fastest growing careers through
2010, according to the United States Bureau of labor Statistics.
This can be attributed to a predicted surge in the number of physicians'
offices and outpatient care facilities. Technological advancements
and the growing number of elderly Americans who need medical treatment
are also factors for the increased demand for medical assistants.
In this program you will be trained in a broad range of skills that are essential to a
career in a medical office setting. As a medical assistant, you will be a multi-skilled
professional dedicated to assisting in patient care management.
You will be trained to perform administrative and clinical/laboratory duties and may
manage emergency situations, facilities, and/or personnel. Competence in the field also
requires that you display professionalism, communicate effectively, and participate in
continuing education programs.
This program offers a certificate and is accredited by the Curriculum Review Board of the
American Association of Medical Assistants of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied

MEDICAL CODING SPECIALIST -
Certificate Program
Upon successful completion of the Medical Coding
Specialist course of study, the student will be prepared to perform
administrative procedures in the medical office or other health care
facilities. The student will have a comprehensive overview of procedures
and processes necessary for coding and billing health care claims on an
outpatient level. Upon completion of the required courses you will
then be eligible for the 192 hours of externship. Externship

NURSING Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree
The KVCC Nursing Program prepares graduates for career opportunities in acute care
hospitals, chronic care facilities, extended care, nursing homes, clinics, offices, and in
home health. As an AAS degree recipient, you may transfer your credits to various
four-year institutions for continued education in nursing. Program counselors can assist
you with transfer information.
The KVCC Nursing Program is approved by the Michigan Board of Nursing. It includes one
semester of prerequisite coursework and four semesters of nursing coursework for the
full-time student.
LEVEL I
Upon successful completion of two semesters of nursing coursework, the student will
receive a certificate in practical nursing and be eligible to write the National Council
Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN).
LEVEL II
Upon successful completion of all four semesters of nursing coursework, graduates will
receive an Associate of Applied Science degree and will be qualified to write the National
Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN).
