Mary Mace Spradling African-American
Book Collection
The Mary
Mace Spradling African-American Book Collection was dedicated to the
Kalamazoo Valley Community College Arcadia Commons Campus Library on October
7, 1998. This 2800 volume collection was the personal library of Mary
Mace Spradling, a retired librarian of the Kalamazoo Public Library, a
community activist, educator, and editor of In Black & White:
African Americans in Print.
Each volume of the Mary Mace Spradling
African-American Book Collection can be easily identified on the shelves of
the Arcadia Commons Campus Library by looking for the gold dot on the spine
label of the book. Each of these also has a book plate affixed inside
the back cover.
The collection will grow and remain contemporary through
an endowment fund at the Kalamazoo Foundation. The cataloging and
processing of this collection was made possible by a grant from the Harold
and Grace Upjohn Foundation.
