The Kalamazoo Valley Community College Cougar Volleyball Team will compete in the MCCAA State Finals this weekend in Jackson.
The Cougars ended up with a record of 22-6 and played some home matches to a record amount of spectators.
According to Head Coach Tim Balice, the season leading up to the girls earning a spot among the other elite teams from both east and west Michigan was hard-earned.
“It was not unusual for the girls to play six matches in seven days,” says Coach Balice. “And factoring in practice and academics made for a demanding schedule, especially for a team who is mostly freshmen.”
A recent notable victory was when the lady Cougars by beat the Grand Rapids Community College team on their own home court, something that hasn’t happened in three years. “GRCC is not only ranked seventh in the country, they are defending the national championship and rarely lose on their home court,” said Coach Balice. “This is a special group of team players. We are really excited to advance to the state finals.”
