Admission to the Special Education curriculum at WMU is granted only for Fall semester. Selection for Special Education is competitive. Students should apply to WMU well in advance for the February 1 deadline. Students must have a 2.5 GPA for admission to the College of Education and passing scores on the basic skills section of Michigan Test Test for Teacher Certification. Grades of 2.0 in PSY 160 or PSY 190 and ENG 110 or ENG 160 are required. At least 30 hours of documented experience with a person with a disability. Completion of the Pre-Education requirement does not guarantee admission to the Special Education program. Students will then select either an Elementary or Secondary endorsement. Electives should be selected based on students choice of WMU minor. Consult with a counselor for details. No courses with grades less than 2.0 will transfer to WMU.
