Kalamazoo Valley Community College

Respiratory Care Program

Application and Acceptance Process

The number of students that we can accept into this program is limited. Candidates need to apply specifically for acceptance into the Respiratory Care Program using our Health Careers Application packet. In order to read the application packet you need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader.

There are prerequisite courses for this program. Certain competencies are essential for success in this curriculum. Therefore, candidates need to take COMPASS/ACT tests in Reading, Writing, and Math. If you need to develop competencies in these areas, you must take all of the courses recommended. Students are encouraged to apply to the program as soon as they achieve acceptable COMPASS/ACT scores and acceptable grades in all of the prerequisite courses. More specific information can be found on the eligibility and prerequisite pages.

Applications will be accepted beginning the first ten business days in October for the following Fall program.
For example: if you turn in your application on October 5, 2013, you will be applying for the program starting Fall 2014.

Submission of Immunization/Physical Examination forms, a criminal background check (Live Scan fingerprinting) and drug test will be required. The process to complete the Immunization/Physical Examination forms and background check will be detailed once the student meets the criteria for academic acceptance (prerequisite courses, placement testing and all application requirements). If admitted, drug screening will be required before clinical placement. Clinical placement is not until the second semester. The cost of any immunizations needed, the physical examination, criminal background check and drug test are the responsibility of the student.
