Featured Story Faculty Instructional Award Winners

Congratulations to the recipients of the college’s first Instructional Faculty Awards. More than 700 votes were cast, mainly by students, for Best Instructor awards. Hundreds of Kalamazoo Valley Community College instructors were nominated. The recipients were recognized at a May 20 luncheon (Photos) hosted by the Faculty Success Center. Each received a commemorative certificate. Their names will also be engraved on permanent plaques to be displayed at both campuses. This year’s recipients were Rick Brill, Political Science and History instructor; Chafe Hensley, Graphic Arts and Art instructor; Kathy Kerstetter, Business and Math instructor; Nicole McClure, Math instructor; Jeff Shouldice, Law Enforcement and Police Academy instructor; and Mary Walter, Biology and Health Careers instructor. “Our students know a lot about what a good teacher is and we have a lot of faculty who are doing good teaching,” said Grant Chandler, dean of instruction at Arcadia Commons Campus. Check our Vimeo account for video interviews with each of the six winners. Congratulations to you all!

Board Approves Tuition Increase
The KVCC Board of Trustees has authorized an increase in the College’s tuition in the amount of $3 per credit hour for in-district, $6 per credit hour for out-of-district, and $10 per credit hour for out-of-state students. A $25 per semester, non-refundable enrollment fee will also be charged to all credit-enrolling students. KVCC continues to offer cutting edge programming that is a source of pride. Our tuition and fees remain low and we are able to offer generous financial assistance to many of our students. Even with these increased costs, we are confident that KVCC will remain a vibrant, valuable resource for so much of the community.
