"Music should be active, fun, and imaginative."It started with a single drum. Keeping a group of 3-5 year olds engaged and entertained is never easy
The idea for Small Sounds started at The Looking Glass Preschool, when Mr. Djembe (an African drum) was introduced. The kids had to "wake up" the djembe before they could begin. Before long, they were dancing wildly around the room in rhythm. Seeing how much fun they were having, a guitar and other instruments were introduced. They would spend afternoons acting like alligators, monkeys, and treasure hunters. The children went home singing songs they had learned in class. Seeing them so excited about music was an exhilarating thing.
The concept for Small Sounds was hatched: classes that were more than music theory or rigid instruction. Music, movement, and imagination became the motto. An experience was created where kids could be social and learn basic music principles, all while having fun, moving around, and getting to play hands-on with instruments, as well as using their imagination!
