Kalamazoo Valley Community College

Counselors New Student Orientation

The purpose of New Student Orientation is to provide students with a smooth and helpful transition to college life. The college expects students, who are admitted for the semester and have ACT or COMPASS test scores on file, to attend a New Student Orientation. We strongly encourage you to register for an orientation as early as possible, parents are welcome to attend. (Due to the duration and level of involvement, it is strongly encouraged that children do not attend orientation. If other arrangements are unavailable, please call 269-488-4123.)

While at New Student Orientation, students will have an opportunity to receive academic advising and complete all necessary steps to select and/or register for classes. Our hope is that students are able to leave orientation with a complete schedule of classes, including sections and times. Orientations are available at both the Texas Township and Arcadia Commons (downtown Kalamazoo) campuses. Orientations held at the Arcadia Commons campus are by individual appointment only. Students may take classes on both campuses regardless of where they attend orientation.

Requirements before attending Orientation:

  • Students must have applied and received KVCC acceptance letter
  • Students must have ACT or COMPASS test scores on file at KVCC
    Please note the following:
    • If ACT scores are below benchmarks then a student will need to take the COMPASS test before attending New Student Orientation. If your scores are below these benchmarks in one or more areas, please contact the KVCC testing center at 269. 488.4235 for testing dates and times.
