The Kalamazoo Valley Community College Foundation’s annual Opportunities for Education dinner on May 1 was a night to remember. The event is the largest scholarship fundraiser for the Foundation. Although totals have not been finalized, Foundation director Steve Doherty said he believes donations increased over last year’s totals. To date, the event has generated $47,011. Last year’s final tally was $44,204.
Arlin Wasserman was the keynote speaker for the May 1 event. Wasserman is a fellow at the Aspen Institute, chairs the Sustainability Business Leadership Council at the Culinary Institute of America and serves as a judge for the James Beard Foundation Leadership Awards as well as the board of the Sustainable Food Lab. “He was a dynamic speaker with an important message about how food choices have changed tremendously over the past few decades,” Doherty said.
