Faculty Instructional Award Winners Announced

Kalamazoo Valley’s 2013 Faculty Instructional Awards were announced on Aug. 29. This year’s winners were (L-R) Chafe Hensley, who won for animation instruction; math instructor Kelly Digby; Isaac Turner, English instructor; Vicki Hileski, nursing program instructor; and Douglas Jones, English instructor. Tami Port, microbiology instructor, also received the award, but is not pictured.

The awards are meant to recognize teaching excellence. Students and staff nominate candidates in the annual contest. This is the third year of awards presented to instructors who actively encourage students’ intellectual curiosity, engage them in the enterprise of learning, and have a lifelong impact.

“It’s not just a popularity contest,” said Kevin Dockerty, who serves on the selection committee. “We consider the disciplines and the quality of the nominating comments.”

Each of the winning instructors received a framed certificate and a gift bag. Their names are also being added to commemorative plaques that will be displayed at each campus.
