KVCC Campus Band Presents Spring Mini-Concerts on Feb. 29

02/29/2012  1:00 pm to 11:00 pm

TTC Student Commons

The Kalamazoo Valley Community College Campus Band will present two brief concerts on Wednesday, February 29 in the Student Commons at the Texas Township Campus. The performances will be held at 1 and 1:25 p.m.

Musical selections will include Manhattan Beach March, a John Phillip Sousa march composed in 1893; Deir' In De, an arrangement for band of a traditional Irish Lullaby; Surfboard Blues, inspired by the surfer poem "I'm all bummed out, the waves are flat and it's starting to rain, the sky's turning black; and Fantasia on a Dargason, the 4th movement of the Second Suite in F by Gustav Holst, originally written for Military Band in 1911 and is considered a 'classic' piece of the band literature.

The 65-member band is comprised of KVCC and Western Michigan University students along with community members.  The group rehearses during the fall and winter semesters on Monday and Wednesday afternoons in the Dale B Lake Auditorium on KVCC's Texas Township Campus. It is under the direction of Chris Garrett.

The group's next performance will be the semester concert at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 20.  This concert will include the KVCC Community Choir.

Both events are free and open to the public.  For further information email Chris Garrett at cgarrett@kvcc.edu.
