Friday Night Highlights and Art Exhibits Draw Crowds to the KVM, CNM

Kalamazoo Valley Community College’s Center for New Media and the Kalamazoo Valley Museum are both must-see destinations for Art Hop goers.

A new art exhibit opens at the Center for New Media for the December 6 Art Hop. The New Media Showcase, on display all month in the Arcus and CNM galleries, will feature the Kalamazoo Children’s Chorus during the opening night reception from 5:30–8:00 p.m. The juried exhibit includes the best work by Art and New Media students representing illustration, graphic design, photography, web design, animation, game art, and timebased media/video.

The December 6 Art Hop event at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum is a free 6 p.m. concert by the Kalamazoo Mandolin & Guitar Orchestra. The Kalamazoo Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra will present holiday music old and new, along with other traditional audience favorites. The Kalamazoo Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra is a plucked string ensemble consisting of mandolins, mandolas, mandocellos, guitars, and bass. The KMGO was founded in 2003 to revive the mandolin orchestra tradition in Kalamazoo. Under the direction of conductor Miles Kusik, the orchestra enjoys performing a wide variety of music including classical, ethnic, and “golden era” mandolin orchestra music.

The Kalamazoo Valley Museum is operated by Kalamazoo Valley Community College and is governed by its Board of Trustees.
