Foundation Fundraising Campaign in Progress Now
The Kalamazoo Valley Community College Foundation has begun its annual scholarship fundraising campaign. The foundation provides a variety of scholarships to help Kalamazoo Valley students financially. The Foundation's goal is to raise $52,000 this year. So far, about a third of the goal has been met.
"The majority of our fundraising takes place as end of year giving, but the campaign runs through the end of the fiscal year, which is June 30," said Steve Doherty, Director of Development.
Donations made to the foundation go directly to support scholarships for Kalamazoo Valley students. The need for scholarships continues to increase. Doherty said more than 21,000 applications for financial aid were received by the college this year and only 40 percent of those students who applied for financial aid received assistance.
"It’s a startling fact that many students simply don’t come to college because they can’t afford it if they don’t get financial assistance," Doherty said.
