Down Dog Yoga Classes offered at Kalamazoo Valley

Yoga classes are now available at the Wellness and Fitness Center at the Texas Township Campus of Kalamazoo Valley Community College through Down Dog Yoga studio. A Gentle Yoga class begins on June 12 and a Mindful Unwindings Yoga Class begins on June 14. Both classes run from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and cost $60.

Gentle Yoga will be held on Mondays from June 12 to July 24 with no class on July 3. Mindful Unwindings will be held on Wednesdays from June 14 to July 26 with no class on July 5.

Gentle Yoga is a supportive and fun class that encourages participants to be gentle with their bodies. Students will explore their current status and then move beyond that to discover new depths within themselves. Prop such as blocks, straps, bolsters, blankets, and chairs will be used to modify postures and offer support in this gentle paced class. Beginners are welcome.

The Mindful Unwindings class is both active and restorative. Participants will seek to unwind the stress held in their systems and delve into the experience of living. Class begins with mantra (chanting), pranayama (yogic breathwork), and a seated meditation before moving into asana (postures).

Props will be used in active and restful poses to help unravel tension and connect to the intelligence of the body. Participants will tune into the subtle as we ground, flow, open, and re-balance body, mind, and spirit. Class ends with the deep rest of savasana.
