Campus Band Presents October 25 Mini-Concerts

The Kalamazoo Valley Community College Campus Band will present two mini-concerts in the Commons Area of the Texas Township Campus on October 25, 2017. These free lunch-time events are for the college community and are open to the public. The band will perform three or four pieces starting at 1:05 p.m. and again at 1:30 p.m. The concert is targeted at a casual walk-through audience, although seating is available in the Commons.

This mini-concert will include the classic band composition “Sea Songs” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, the beautiful “Lux Aurumque” by Eric Whitacre, and the famous Sousa march “Semper Fidelis.”

The Campus Band was created in the fall of 2003 by the its current conductor Chris Garrett. From the original band of 20 members, it has consistently grown over the years to an average of 50 members. Consisting of both college students and community members, it provides a musical outlet for the Kalamazoo community for people interested in performing instrumental music. The band also presents a formal concert at the end of each semester and provides the music for Kalamazoo Valley commencement ceremonies. The Music Department’s semester concert will be held in Dale B. Lake auditorium at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 8. This concert is also free and open to the public.
