October 2025 Newsletter

   Message from the Director

When my brother was two and just learning to talk, he went trick-or-treating for the first time. After visiting a couple of houses, he looked up at my mom and said, “This is wonderful!” I have the same feeling every Halloween when I see people of all ages out on Halloween night. I love the rustling of dry leaves blowing across the sidewalk, the warm glow coming from neighborhood windows, the cheerful chatter of friends and neighbors walking together and the unique smell of a giant pile of miscellaneous candy. I feel something similar when I contemplate the network of Kalamazoo Valley Community College alumni and I consider the impact we’re making on the region. I can’t help but think, “This is wonderful!”

Community Drives Success of Kalamazoo Valley Fall Recycling Event

Kalamazoo Valley Community College partnered with Green Earth Electronics Recycling to host a biannual EPS foam and electronics recycling event Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Texas Township Campus. An estimated 250 vehicles attended, a 35% increase compared to the spring event and a 300% increase compared to last fall.

With the help of community members, volunteers filled 23 bags of EPS foam, diverting a significant amount of waste from landfills.

Variations of "Thank you for doing this!" were heard throughout the day, reinforcing the event's positive impact on the community.

Thank you to everyone who participated and supported sustainability efforts at Kalamazoo Valley.

Our next recycling event will be April 18; we encourage everyone to join!
