March 10, 2025
Greetings students!
Welcome back! I hope that you enjoyed your spring break and have come back recharged and ready to tackle the rest of the semester. The halls and classrooms in our campuses were too quiet while you were gone and we're glad you're back on campus.
As you head into the final stretch in these last weeks before the end of the semester, stay strong. If you need motivation, remember your dreams and why you are here. Your hard work will pay off in the future in more ways than you can imagine.
If you need help, don't be afraid to ask for it. That's what we're here for - to help you attain your goals. Ask your instructors for help when you are stuck or don't understand. Reach out to Student Development Services at 269.488.4040 if you need food or other life resources, mental health support or assistance with planning for the future.
I have observed that Kalamazoo Valley Community College students are among the most determined individuals in the nation. I'm impressed by how hard you work and am looking forward to celebrating your success when you cross the finish line.
Sincerely,

L. Marshall Washington, Ph.D.
President

Safety Precautions to take in the Case of an Active Shooter
Kalamazoo Valley's Department of Public Safety is prepared for such an event, but additional steps can be done by everyone to minimize the dangers. Use the Avoid, Deny, Defend Model.
- Avoid: If you are near an exit, run and seek safety. Help others who may need assistance exiting the building.
- Deny: Barricade, barricade, barricade. Fortify your workspace and classroom. Work as a team and lock all doors. Place heavy objects in front of the door to prevent or delay entry. Turn off the lights. Find objects that you can stand behind for protection. Do not hide under desks. Look for objects that can be used as a weapon.
- Defend: If your barricade doesnt work, be prepared to fight.
- First responders will systematically clear the campus and each room during and after the event.
For more information, please refer to the yellow safety book located in classrooms.

We are very proud of them although they lost to Marian Universitys Ancilla College in Indiana, 68-46, in the first round of play, so they could not advance in the tournament.
