Acclaimed 'Mr. SOUL!' Film Shown for Free June 17
The Kalamazoo Valley Museum hosts a FREE film screening of the acclaimed "Mr. SOUL!" — a documentary that explores the first nationally broadcast all-Black variety show on public television.
It will be shown Tuesday, June 17 at 5 p.m. in its Mary Jane Stryker Theater. A panel discussion follows with local Black creatives, curated by Soul Artistry LLC.
The screening is part of the museum's annual Juneteenth Celebration of Freedom: Black Film Festival.
The free tickets will be released on the day of the show at the museum's front desk.
Since debuting in 2021, the Emmy Award-nominated "Mr. SOUL! The Movie, a Documentary Film" by Melissa Haizlip has won the Peabody Award for Best Documentary, the Critics Choice Award for Best Documentary Feature and the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Writing in a Documentary.
