What is Financial Aid
Financial aid is any source of funds available to assist students and their families with the costs of attending college.
There are four sources of financial aid:
- Federal Government
- State Government
- KVCC
- Loans
There are four types of financial aid:
- Grants
- Scholarships
- Work Study
- Loans
Eligibility Requirements for Financial Aid
To be eligible to receive financial assistance from federal aid programs, a student must:
- Be pursuing an eligible certificate or degree program at Kalamazoo Valley (Certificate of Achievement and Unclassified Programs are not considered eligible programs for financial aid.)
- Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
- Be accepted for admission to Kalamazoo Valley
- Be able to benefit from selected programs of study
- Demonstrate financial need
- Be making Satisfactory Academic Progress
- Not be in default on any Title IV HEA loans and not owe a refund on any Title IV HEA grant at any institution.
- Have a high school diploma, G.E.D. certificate, or a home school completion credential.
Financial Aid Awarding - Priority Timeline
During the peak times listed below, processing of financial aid information submitted to the Financial Aid Office will take about 2 to 3 weeks. Please plan accordingly.
- June, July, August
- prior to the initial semester tuition due date
- prior to semester start date
- during the first month of each semester
Please make sure all requested documents submitted to the Financial Aid Office are signed by you and your parents (if requested) and your Valley ID # is placed on all forms.
If you register for classes and tuition is due prior to having your financial aid file reviewed, you will be responsible for the payment of your tuition and books.
